An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well-established older persons medicine team. We are looking to recruit to a maternity post for a band 4 therapy assistant practitioner, to join an experienced, dedicated and enthusiastic team. Responsible for the delivery of therapy to the elderly/frail on the OPM wards at The James Cook University Hospital.
Main duties of the job
You will work within a multidisciplinary team providing assessment, rehabilitation and support to patients across the older persons medicine
pathway. Although you will be based at James Cook hospital you may also, at times, be asked to provide cover and support to community
hospitals.
We have a comprehensive In-Service Training Programme and staff are encouraged and supported in their continuous professional development.
You will be supported by senior physiotherapists and occupational therapists and have regular supervision sessions and appraisals.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Knowledge acquired through in-house training, short course and experience to NVQ 3 level or equivalent, plus knowledge of specific patient conditions, forms of therapy, acquired through training, experience or NVQ3 in relevant subject.
- Level 1 English and Maths functional skills or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Additional training relevant to this post
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial previous experience as an AHP therapy assistant
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in older persons medicine
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
- Basic moving and handling skills
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, with both patients and colleagues.
- Ability to demonstrate good judgement skills in determining the best course of action when problem solving
- Basic IT skills
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of patient conditions and treatment within relevant speciality
