AFC Band 5 to 6 development post: SENIOR DIETITIAN Gastroenterology / Surgery/Critical care
Fixed Term (12 month) maternity leave cover – 37.5 hours per week

If yes, we are offering an opportunity for you to do both and would welcome your application to join us & develop as a Specialist Dietitian within these clinical areas.
The post holder will be required to work within the James Cook University Hospital and must have HCPC registration.
Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
The post holder will be a key member of the gastroenterology, surgical & critical care teams, providing a specialist dietetic service to both inpatients and outpatients. Medical specialities include liver disease, hepato-pancreato-biliary conditions, inflammatory bowel disease, as well as general gastroenterology inpatients. Surgical specialities include colorectal surgery, upper lower GI, urology and gynaecology. On critical care you will see a variety of patients including major trauma, brain injuries, post-surgical patients, respiratory conditions & post-cardiothoracic surgical patients. The successful candidate will support patients with a wide range of conditions requiring all forms of nutrition support, including parenteral nutrition and home enteral tube feeding, and will become a key member of the trust nutrition team.
The successful candidate will be given regular supervision and support from experienced dietitians and will also be involved in providing education to other health care professionals and support workers.

Continued professional development is actively encouraged, as is participation in audit, evidence-based practice & research. We provide training for student dietitians, and the post offers opportunities to be involved in student training. The post-holder will also be responsible for the clinical supervision and development of junior staff and dietetic assistants on a daily basis
The hospital is in an ideal location within easy reach of the East Coast, North Yorkshire Moors and Scotland. Accommodation is available on site if required

You will be expected to attend the leadership development programme, and the Quality Improvement Programme that the Trust delivers. This programme aims to:

- Practitioner level in quality improvement, equipping you with the skills to champion, lead and complete quality improvement within your role
After you complete this four and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities, we offer further in-house courses dependent upon your role and bitesize programmes and leadership apprenticeships at level 3,5 and 7.

Qualifications and Training

- • To hold a Degree in Dietetics or equivalent
- • To be registered as a Dietitian and fit to practice by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- • To have Achieved or willing to work towards relevant Post-graduate qualification e.g. PENG
- • To be committed to continuing professional development

Experience (band 5)

- • Can demonstrate relevant/varied post graduate experience across a variety of clinical areas.
- • Experience with managing patients on enteral feeds

- • To have experience in managing patients with complex nutritional needs including those with gastrointestinal problems or following surgical procedures
- • To have experience of working within a high dependency unit or intensive care environment
- • To have a basic insight into parenteral nutrition
