Secondment opportunity: ending 31st March 2025 –37.5 hours per week

Grade: AFC Band 5

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, motivated and proactive HCPC registered dietitian to join the Children and Young People’s Service at South Tees which has been rated as one of the top performers in the 2020 Children and Young People’s Survey by the CQC.

We have a fixed term post to cover a secondment available within The South Tees Nutrition and Dietetic service. This is an ideal opportunity for a Band 5 wishing to gain experience in paediatrics. Full training and clinical supervision will be provided by the members of the paediatric dietetic team.

Main duties of the job

The paediatric dietetic team work across the 3 localities (Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Hambleton and Richmondshire) served by South Tees NHS Trust. James Cook University Hospital (JCUH) in Middlesbrough is our central point where we will have team meetings and clinical update sessions.

This post will include clinical work at JCUH, the Friarage hospital Northallerton and locations such as schools, children centres and health centres.

The post is varied and involves working with a variety of patient groups including, children on home enteral feeds, oral nutritional support, behavioural eating difficulties, neonates, in patient eating disorders and diabetes. The weekly rota for this post may include home visits, ward sessions, feeding clinics in specialist schools, telephone clinics and general outpatient clinics.

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary teams, with opportunities to work collaboratively with other health care professionals. You should have excellent communication skills and above all you must be passionate about working within dietetics using drive and innovation to make positive changes.

Continued professional development is actively encouraged, as is participation in audit and evidence-based practice.  We have monthly clinical updates to share learning from study events we have attended. We provide training placements for student dietitians, as well as a dietetic apprenticeship programme.

Our office bases are in an ideal location surrounded by beautiful countryside, market towns and villages and within easy reach of the East Coast, North Yorkshire Moors and Scotland It is served by good travel networks; is within easy reach of the A1M motorway; cities such as Newcastle, Durham, York and Leeds are very accessible via the East Coast main line train service. We are also close to three international airports – Teesside, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle.

Knowledge and Skills

Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of audit
  • Membership of: British Dietetic Association (BDA)
  • Skills in the use of SystmOne or another electronic patient record

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • To hold a Degree in Dietetics or equivalent
  • To be registered as a Dietitian and fit to practice by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates experience across a variety of clinical areas
Desirable criteria
  • Some experience within paediatrics
  • Some experience in diabetes
  • Experience of working with children or young people in any setting
