The James Cook University Hospital is a Major Trauma Centre and provides a wide range of specialist services as well as District General Hospital services.
We are looking to recruit a new Physiotherapy Assistant to work as part of the Physiotherapy Team on the Trauma and Orthopaedic Wards at The James Cook University Hospital. You will assist the Physiotherapists in providing high quality treatment and rehabilitation to patients within the hospital. We are looking for a friendly, helpful and motivated person, preferably with some experience of working with members of the public. We are looking for an applicant with a keen interest in the rehabilitation of patients for which continued professional development will be actively encouraged.
The appointed candidate must successfully undertake a pre-employment medical and have disclosure details available prior to starting work.

Main duties of the job
To support the Physiotherapists in providing an efficient and effective Physiotherapy service within the framework of clinical governance
To undertake specific skilled support work to aid the rehabilitation of patients on the Orthopaedic wards, assisting the Physiotherapy team in their area of work.
This will involve treatments of delegated patients, including group work, according to needs of care plan or protocols. There will also be administrative and equipment maintenance duties.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- 3 A-levels OR Health and Science T-level OR equivalent level 3 qualification(s) and Functional Skills (level 2) OR As a level 3 apprenticeship, such as the Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship (or other level 3 qualification pathway) AND/OR Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties AND/OR Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3; - Theoretical knowledge - Experience of a range of care and related procedures - clinical observations - knowledge of relevant legislation

Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and active listening skills. Ability to adopt appropriate styles and methods of communication.
- Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other Trust systems.
- Analytical and judgement skills to make decisions based on patient / service user interactions and observations and metrics.
Desirable criteria
- Working knowledge of Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in health or social care.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working as a therapy assistant.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to deal with a wide range of people at all levels, including clients, carers, family, health and social care colleagues and other professionals.
