This is a rare opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated pharmacy technician to provide a leadership role in the management of Clinical Trials involving Aseptic Services at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
You will be based in the Main Pharmacy at The James Cook University Hospital and will work under the management of the Highly Specialised Lead Pharmacy Technician - Clinical Trials with oversight from the Specialist Lead Pharmacist - Clinical Trials and Aseptic and Cancer Services Accountable Pharmacist.
Pharmacy play a vital role in clinical research to safeguard participants, healthcare professionals and the Trust by ensuring that clinical trial material and Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) are appropriate for use and are procured, handled, stored and used safely and correctly.
You will have a varied role which will include clinical trial set-up, maintenance and close-down activities, electronic prescribing protocol build and maintenance.
You will be expected to undertake in-house clinical trial training and complete a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) course (either on-line or face-to-face) and subsequent refresher training every 3 years.
The successful candidate will work 8:30-17:00 Monday to Friday.
Main duties of the job
To undertake a key leadership role in the delivery of the pharmacy clinical trials service involving Aseptic services. The pharmacy clinical trials service must ensure compliance with legislation, national & trust policies, and study protocols.
Set-up of clinical trials involving Aseptic preparation which include:
• Electronic prescription and Medication Administration (EPMA) protocol build and maintenance
• Creation of Aseptic worksheets and labels
• Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development and implementation
• Ensuring compatibilities and stabilities of raw products &consumables • Reviewing study protocol(s), drug classification(s) and consideration of additional legal and governance requirements (e.g. Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products).
Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP) oversight in Aseptics to include:
• Preparation of Aseptically prepared products
• Accuracy checking of clinical trial materials and IMPs
• Stock management
• Training of Aseptics staff to ensure appropriate IMP handling
Communicate effectively with clinical trial Sponsors, research nurses, patients, medical, nursing and other health professionals involved in clinical trials.
