Associate Chief Pharmacist - Clinical Services

NHS AfC: Band 8c

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team to lead the pharmacy clinical services delivered to our patients.

We are looking for an exceptional leader to inspire and give direction to an enthusiastic and dedicated clinical pharmacy team.

As a registered professional and an experienced leader, the post holder will have the motivation and enthusiasm to review and develop services and to inspire multi-professional teams to achieve their goals and objectives. An ability to influence, negotiate and network with pharmacy professionals and the wider healthcare team, both within and outside the organisation, is essential.

Main duties of the job

  • Leading the development and maintenance of a clear strategy for the delivery of clinical pharmacy services to optimise and enhance the quality of medicines optimisation and pharmaceutical care provided to our patients.
  • Ensuring that clinical pharmacy services are delivered to a high quality, in a safe and cost-effective manner in accordance with relevant legislation and national guidance.
  • Monitoring the quality of clinical pharmacy services through a programme of clinical audit, pharmacy practice research and service evaluation.
  • Identifying the education and training needs of the clinical pharmacy team, in conjunction with the E&T pharmacist, to ensure that robust training mentoring and development opportunities are in place to allow the pharmacy team to grow.
  • Recruitment and management of staff working with the clinical pharmacy team.
  • Maintaining an area of clinical practice and highly specialist expert knowledge through delivery of 2 sessions of clinical activity per week.

Working for our organisation

The pharmacy department provides inpatient and outpatient dispensing services to both Warrington and Halton Hospitals. We also provide clinical pharmacy services to two local Hospices, and a pharmaceutical supply function to several external organisations. There has been significant funding in our dispensaries on both sites, with new BD Vmax dispensing robots installed on both sites, the first time automation has been deployed at the Halton site, and funding has been approved to refresh our aseptic unit.

The department has close working relationships with local healthcare partners including local PCNs for pharmacist and pharmacy technician training posts, as well as hosting the NHS Cheshire and Merseyside virtual ward pharmacy team.

We are proud of our approach to developing our team, supporting staff who are keen to undertake further learning and qualifications to develop their skills and knowledge.
