This is an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist, to join the surgical and respiratory team, and develop their skills in this specialist area.
The team is multi-professional consisting of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Assistants, and provides therapy to the surgical and respiratory wards, including intensive care.
If you are ready to take the next step in your career this is opportune for you. On joining the team as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist, you will be provided with a 6-month competency training programme. Successful completion of this will enable you to progress into the Band 6 role.
Within the immediate team and the wider therapies department you will have opportunities to continually develop your clinical skills, but also in areas such as quality improvement, audits, and research.

The postholder will manage a caseload, working across the surgical and respiratory wards, including the acute respiratory unit and gastroenterology wards.
Collaborative working is key to the role, as the postholder will be working with fellow AHPs and the wider multi-discipline team, including community services.
The successful candidate will have excellent organisational and time management skills in order to work within the demands of a busy service.
The successful post holder will be expected to provide supervision and support to junior members of the team and engage in quality improvement and service development initiatives.
Expectation is that over a 6-month period the post holder will have training to achieve Band 6 competencies. On successful completion of these, the postholder will become a substantive Band 6
The working hours for this post is 37.5 hours over 5 days Mondays to Fridays. In the future it will include supporting seven day working.

Over a period of approximately 6 months the successful post holder will work towards gaining their band 6 competencies. This will be done with the guidance and supervision of a senior therapists with wide support from the therapies team. On completion of the competencies the post holder will fulfil the role summary detailed below.
Based within the Surgical and Respiratory inpatient team you will be assessing and treating patients utilising an integrated therapy approach.
The post holder will utilise specialist skills in surgical and respiratory therapy to assess and clinically manage own caseload of patients across the surgical and respiratory wards.
As a specialist therapist, you will be responsible for the clinical supervision of Band 5 staff, assistants and students and will be supported by senior members of the team. You will participate in service improvement projects, audits, in-service training and work collaboratively with community colleagues to facilitate timely and safe discharges.
The post holder may have the opportunity to participate in the weekend working rota in the future.
