Job overview

Warrington Hospital has a dynamic Histopathology department with state-of-the-art equipment and a team that is dedicated to our patients. We are looking for a new Consultant colleague to meet the challenges of increased clinical workload. The successful candidate will join a friendly team who are focussed on the provision of an excellent service.

The Warrington & Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recognised as a Cancer Centre. The Cancer Services Accreditation has been appraised successfully for the following tumour sites: Breast, Colorectal, Lung, Haematology, Head & Neck and Urology.

The department is proudly UKAS accredited and developing our digital reporting repertoire.

Main duties of the job

The department processes over 25,500 specimens per year, with the majority of cases assigned to Gastrointestinal and Dermatology.

Main duties will include; Reporting of Histopathology Specimens, Dissection of complex cases, MDT attendance.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience of Histopathology reporting and specimen dissection
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Non-Gynaecological reporting
  • Willingness to contribute to Post-Mortem service

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Primary medical qualification
  • FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent qualification
  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practice) with the GMC (or eligible for registration within three months of interview)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working at Consultant Level in the UK

Skills, Knowledge and competencies

Essential criteria
  • Experience/Interest in teaching
  • Experience/understanding of Clinical Audit
  • Research Experience
  • Understanding of NHS including management and innovation issues.
  • Ability to function within and lead a team to provide services to patients.
Desirable criteria
  • IT skills
