Thank you for your interest in the post of Consultant Breast Surgeon. This new post offers a rare opportunity for an inspiring individual to join our dedicated team at Macclesfield District General Hospital and help shape the future of our service.
We are seeking a talented and motivated individual who can support our team to achieve our strategic ambitions and to ensure we are delivering outstanding patient-centred care.
The successful applicant will join an expanding service making this an exciting time to help shape the service for the future.
The post is intended to be full time on 10 PAs.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly to deliver high quality care with particular emphasis on:
- Optimising use of all resources allocated to the post to develop appropriate services and techniques required to meet clinical needs.
- Work together with colleagues to ensure effective management of cross-specialty referrals, in-patients, and outpatient clinic programmed activities.
- Adapt, assimilate and integrate best practice from elsewhere to continuously improve care.
- Develop and maintain robust systems to ensure effective clinical audit in the speciality as appropriate, inclusive of undertaking personal audit.
- Further develop services as indicated by department needs and work with colleagues to identify additional resources needed to develop the service.
Working for our organisation
NHS Medical and Dental salaries are set at a national level. For new starters not already working to UK Medical and Dental terms and conditions of service will be appointed to the minimum paypoint. The starting salary paypoint can only be increased when there is evidence of relevant, completed year’s experience in terms of nature, type and level of role. The evidence required to increase a starting salary would be Payslips and details noted in the application form i.e. complete employment history

Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery) or equivalent
- FRCR (Fellowship of the Royal College) of Radiologists or equivalent
- Applicants must have full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- UK trained applicants are required to be a Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
Clinical Knowledge & Expertise
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a Multi-Disciplinary Team
- Broad experience in Breast Surgery for both screening (in the UK programme) and symptomatic patients working in units with such interests.
- One year training 50% of time with a Surgeon with a special interest in Breast disease Training in a breast unit with regular participation in breast reconstruction.
- Training in, and ability to perform oncoplastic reconstruction, including myocutaneous flap reconstruction and acellular collagen matrix reconstruction.
- Evidence of involvement and experience in audit
