To provide safe, high-quality care for acute unscheduled medical admissions within the Medical Admissions Unit, and Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC).
Working alongside current four Consultant Acute Physicians at East Cheshire, this post will have management and clinical responsibility for the patients on the Medical Admissions Unit (MAU). The acute medical number of admissions ranges between 25 - 30 per day. The Acute Physician sees new admissions until 8pm (Monday to Friday), and each acute physician covers Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) on a rota basis until 8pm (Monday to Friday).
This will include overseeing the medical take, performing post-take ward rounds, making specialty referrals, caring for short-stay in patients for up to 48 hours on the MAU, facilitating timely discharge and follow up plans.
The newly appointed Acute Physician will be required to cover SDEC also. On Fridays, the on-call physician will then cover SDEC from 5-8pm. The on-call physician also does post-take ward rounds during the weekend, except on Mondays when this is undertaken by the Acute Physicians.
