An exceptional and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Nurse leader to join the Acute and Integrated Community Care Directorate with a specific focus on patient safety, quality and experience.

 

We are looking for a strong and inspirational nurse leader who can bring the insight and skills related to working in a busy and diverse Directorate. The role also offers a unique opportunity for a Senior Nurse to develop their career with the guidance and support of a strong, patient focused senior leadership team.

 

The Directorate of Acute and Integrated Community Care is made up of 3 service lines, Acute, Urgent and Community Care with a varying range of specialties including Emergency & Acute Medicine, Critical Care, Medical Specialties and 5 Care Communities. 

 

We are looking for someone who has a proven track record and substantial experience in the care of patients across a range of specialties and significant experience in a senior nurse leadership role. You should be able to demonstrate dynamic, inspirational and compassionate leadership skills to help us meet the local and national challenges.

 

You will be a Registered Nurse, educated to master’s degree level or equivalent experience and provide evidence of continuing professional development. You will be highly motivated, imaginative and passionate operational and clinical leader who will help shape, develop and enhance our services.

 

You will have a minimum of 2 years experience in an 8a post.

 

Hours per week: 37.5

Main duties of the job

Working under the direction of the Head of Nursing will collaborate on the following key aspects:

 

  • Professional and operational leadership
  • Clinical Governance and quality
  • Nursing workforce planning
  • Service Development
  • Managing nursing performance

 

You will embody our values, have a passion for operational delivery, a passion for patient care and have excellent communication skills.  A proven track record of innovation and success in senior operational and clinical management roles is essential, including high levels of engagement with staff and external partners.

 

You will support the professional development of nursing staff.  You will provide professional leadership that will enable, influence, negotiate and engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders to improve patient care and nurse leadership.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First Level Registered Nurse
  • Degree level education or equivalent
  • Master’s in nursing or health related studies or equivalent level of experience and competence.
  • Teaching and Assessing Course or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised Management / Leadership qualification

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to lead and direct clinical teams and proactively manage performance to ensure delivery of key operational standards
  • Articulate with highly developed communication skills
  • Ability to network and build relationships at all levels including interpersonal skills, liaison and negotiation skills
  • Presentation / associated IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports and present information relevant to sphere of responsibility within agreed timescales
  • Excellent communicator with effective persuasion and negotiation skills and the ability to motivate and influence others
  • Ability to manage projects and complex tasks requiring analytical and problem solving skills
  • Significant senior leadership / management position at band 8a or above
  • Operational managements experience of working within nursing services
  • Budgetary management, cost improvement planning and quality assessment
  • Good track record of internal and external partnership working
  • Management of employee relations in accordance with HR policies and procedures
  • Understanding clinical governance, risk assessment, appraisal and mitigation
  • Clinical supervision skills

Experience

  • Proven experience of creating opportunities through partnership working
  • Evidence of experience and ability to influence, lead and manage change
