We currently have some Healthcare Assistant vacancies in our Medical - Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)  our Frailty and AMU units.

SDEC
Healthcare Assistants for Medical SDEC, which has recently relocated with the Emergency Department, carry’s out a wide range of care duties directly with the patient, and their relatives/carers. Medical SDEC is an Acute Assessment Area which is a fast paced, busy day unit which provides same day emergency care for direct GP assessments and supporting ED with patient flow.

Experience would be preferable due to the fast pace, and the need to triage patients effectively, however training could be provided for the right applicant. You must have qualities and skills which make you suited to caring for people in a rewarding yet challenging environment.

You must be able to work some weekdays and Bank Holidays.  The shifts are 11.5 hours and are 8am - 8pm or 10am -10pm. There is a possibility that SDEC will be opening weekends.

Frailty

The Trust has invested in a new Frail Elderly Assessment Unit (FEAU). This is an exciting opportunity for staff to join our team.

The unit consists of 8 beds and 6 chairs.  FEAU is for patients that are frail and elderly who present to the Emergency Department.  Patients will be assessed comprehensively by the whole of the multi-disciplinary team to perform a comprehensive geriatric assessment. The aim of FEAU is to assess, treat and discharge patients back to their own home/Placement of Care within 48hrs to reduce the length of stay in hospital for our frail and elderly patients. We will be able to provide frail and elderly patients with rapid access to investigations and treatment without the need for hospital admission.

You do not need experience, but you must have qualities and skills which make you suited to caring for people in a rewarding yet challenging environment.

Shifts are 12 hours, covering 7 days a week and rotate on days and nights. Shift times are 7:30am - 8pm, and 7:30pm to 8am. 

AMU

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Team on the Acute Medical Unit, where no two days are the same.

We are a 32 bedded fast paced Assessment Unit that assist in patient flow from the Emergency Department to the Core Wards.

Shifts are 12 hours, covering 7 days a week and rotate onto days and nights. Shift times are 7:30am - 8pm, and 7:30pm to 8am. 

Successful applicants for AMU will be responsible for the observations, monitoring, patient care, nutrition and hydration of patients as well as paperwork and transfer of the AMU patients to other areas within the Trust.

It is important to consider that some aspects of healthcare work can be distressing and unpleasant.  You will be expected to help patients with personal care without being embarrassed or feeling awkward.  You will also need to be able to communicate sympathetically with patients and distressed relatives and care for patients who are very sick.

These duties are carried out after training (which we will provide), under the direction of a professionally qualified practitioner and can include the following tasks:

• Helping patients to wash or shower and dress
• Serving food and, if necessary, helping patients to eat
• Making and changing beds
• Turning patients who are confined to bed to avoid pressure sores
• Talking with patients to help them feel less lonely or anxious
• Helping patients with mobility problems to move around
• Giving out and collecting bedpans
• Helping patients to the toilet

It’s really important to consider that some aspects of healthcare work can be challenging. You will be expected to help patients with personal care and deal with highly emotive circumstances. You will need to be able to communicate sympathetically with patients, and distressed relatives, and care for patients who are very sick.
