Job overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Medicines Value Pharmacist. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines across Mid-Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust, East Cheshire Trust and The Countess of Chester Hospital. You will be based at Leighton Hospital and work closely with hospital clinical teams, stakeholders, and external partners to optimise the value of medicines, contributing to improved patient outcomes and financial sustainability.

Reporting to the Chief Pharmacist at MCHFT, the post holder will identify, manage, and deliver medicines value projects for both high-cost drugs and in tariff medicines. These projects will be shared with and implementation supported at ECT and COCH.

This exciting new role will require the post holder to demonstrate excellent leadership and organisational skills. You will need to be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the healthcare system and be innovative in your approach to service transformation. The ability to effectively engage with and influence key stakeholders and manage and motivate others is essential to the success of this role.

Main duties of the job

  • Work in partnership with the 3 Acute Trusts and MCHFT Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team to identify, manage and deliver key medicines value projects for both high-cost drugs and in tariff medicines.
  • Develop strategic options to deliver best value models for MCHFT, ECT and COCH.
  • Identify efficiencies associated with the implementation of the EPMA systems and be responsible for managing and implementing new innovative ways of working to deliver savings.

Working for our organisation

This is a great time to join the Pharmacy department at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT). The department has completed a full departmental refurbishment and installation of a new automated dispensing system. We have recently implemented a new dispensing system, electronic ward cabinets and controlled drug cabinet, and are finalising planning for our Electronic Prescribing implementation.

MCHFT provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond.

The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

We employ almost 5,000 members of staff, provide around 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health.

The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.

The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients.

At Mid Cheshire, we value our staff and appreciate that in order to give our patients the best quality, compassionate care, we also need to look after our colleagues.
