Job overview

Are you a keen, motivated, skilled sonographer looking to join a friendly supportive and professional team within a busy DGH?

Do you require a full- time post, or part time hours?

Are you keen to work autonomously within a service that is primarily sonographer led, but with the back up of a great team of Radiologists? If so, our ultrasound department is a great place to work , so come and look at our department and meet the Team!

You will be based at Leighton Hospital, but will  occasionally rotate to our satellite hospital/ Community Diagnostic Hub, and our sites at Nantwich and Alsager Health Centres.

We are located within the heart of Cheshire, near to a major railway station and motorways. Beautiful walks, country pubs and picturesque villages are nearby. Nantwich is within 2 miles, and Chester, Manchester and Liverpool are all easily accessible.

We need sonographers with a variety of ultrasound skills including obstetrics, gynaecology, general, small parts, musculoskeletal and paediatrics.

Bank holidays and weekends are covered on a rota system.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be technically skilled, reliable, professional and motivated, with a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills and a dynamic and flexible approach to their work. Sound decision making skills and the ability and confidence to work alone are essential, but we also need good team players.

Quality reporting skills are of paramount importance, as we operate a sonographer led service with radiologist back up when required.

All our sonographers are encouraged to be proactive in their use of equipment controls and settings, and we see this as a vital part of our student education process.

We have embedded a robust  system of clinical audit with regular feedback.

Good teaching skills are a must, as we are involved in the training of radiology and obstetric registrars as well as having a rolling sonographer training program.

Candidates with experience/ qualifications in only specific areas, and part time applicants should apply.

Applicants are required to hold the PGCert/ PG Dip in Medical Ultrasound from a CASE recognised University and must have worked as a sonographer in the NHS (or an equivalent service in the UK) within the last 3 years. Newly qualified sonographers may apply, however a short period of mentorship at Band 6 may be required depending on experience.

Working for our organisation

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond.

The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

We employ almost 5,000 members of staff, provide around 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health.

The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trust was recognised nationally for its ‘Be Safe Be EquiPPEd’ campaign, which aimed to make the Trust as safe as possible for staff and patients, through supporting the correct use of PPE.

The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients.  We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.

At Mid Cheshire, we value our staff and appreciate that in order to give our patients the best quality, compassionate care, we also need to look after our colleagues.
