Job overview

We are looking to recruit an experienced CCAB qualified Accountant to be our lead specialist in all aspects of strategic and commercial finance and financial Improvement, advising the trust on a variety of complex issues. This is a key role within the senior management of the Trust and has overall responsibility for delivering the Trusts 3 year financial recovery plan along with taking the strategic financial lead on Trust's transformation and sustainability agenda.

Main duties of the job

You will lead major change projects where the complexity and/or cross organisational impact requires senior and experienced leadership to ensure delivery. You will provide best practice programme management and subject matter expertise to lead the continued implementation of the Trust’s annual efficiency and transformation programmes, corporate projects, and support the management and delivery of key Trust projects.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of hospital and community services for people across East Cheshire (population 399K) and West Cheshire and Chester (population 357K). The Trust provides high quality planned and emergency care, cardiac, critical care, child health, maternity services and intermediate care at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford.

The Trust provides over 500 beds and employs over 5,100 members of staff. A comprehensive range of community services is provided across 26 medical centres and schools through our Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a senior manager with responsibility for the Trust’s financial sustainability programme, you will be able to work within a highly complex healthcare environment to support:

  • The development and implementation of the Trust’s transformation programmes that drive efficiency, supporting key transformational schemes agreed by the Board.
  • Develop and implement house style governance, measurement systems and reporting across the organisational priority programmes and align to the financial recover plan and forecasting.
  • Work efficiently and collaboratively with all levels of the organisation to overcome barriers to acceptance of new ways of working.
  • Represent the Trusts at local / national / public meetings / events as required, acting independently, decisively and effectively in sensitive, difficult or political situations which may require delivering difficult messages and continuous information.
  • Establish and support the delivery of the Trust’s Financial Improvement capabilities, embedding an expert team along with a culture and wider capability within the Trust.
  • To review and advise on key commercial and revenue generation opportunities, scanning the horizon for potential commercial opportunities and risks and plan and develop strategies and mitigations appropriately in advising the CFO and the Trust Board
  • To Deputise for Deputy CFO and CFO
  • Take a lead on the strategic review of all back-office functions across the Trusts liaising with specialist teams and other NHS providers to develop future optimal operating models which improve business continuity and value for money.
