Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Administrator

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to for an administrator to join the Cheshire Bowel Cancer Screening Centre based at Leighton Hospital. Although the programme offices and administration team are based at Leighton hospital the service and clinical team cover the whole of Cheshire.

We are a busy service and are currently looking to expand the screening age over the next 2 years to all 50-60 year olds, as well as incorporating surveillance of Lynch syndrome patients. 

The successful applicant will become part of a team responsible for the provision of a professional and efficient administrative support service to ensure the smooth and efficient performance of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme service across Cheshire.

We would welcome applications from individuals who have experience in an administrative setting with excellent organisational skills, a good telephone manner, computer skills, good level of literacy and a high level of attention to detail.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will need to be enthusiastic and dedicated with the good communication and organisational  skills as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The Programme works collaboratively with the English National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) as part of the local and regional team.

Part of the role will include contributing to the preparation and delivery of Health Promotion activities across Cheshire.

The ability to be flexible & organised in the workplace with a passion for delivering a quality and successful service is essential.

Induction; training and ongoing development will be supported by the Admin Lead, Lead Specialist Screening Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Manager.

As part of the of role there will be a requirement to complete mandatory IT training courses.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) is the organisation which manages Leighton Hospital, Crewe, and Victoria Infirmary, Northwich.

Qualifications/knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent
  • Keyboard skills to RSA II or equivalent
  • Ability and willingness to undergo further training as necessary
  • Extensive experience in an NHS administrative setting
  • Co-ordination of booking systems
  • Database input
  • Waiting list management
  • Maintain stationery ordering system
  • Typing skills
  • Demonstrate analytical skills
Desirable criteria
  • Training on the Bowel Cancer Screening system (BCSS)
  • Extensive Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Internet and GroupWise Email, PAS, ICS and Unisoft
  • Development of performance and ad hoc reports
