An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Upper GI CNS team at Leighton Hospital for an enthusiastic individual, who is passionate abut patient care and outcomes.
The purpose of this role is to support the Upper GI Team to implement the early diagnostic pathway for patients with suspected Upper GI cancer to achieve definitive diagnosis by day 28. This role has been specially designed to support the optimal Upper GI timed pathway and will require the post holder to evolve to support the pathway as it continues to refine over time.
Main duties of the job
The Post holder will be responsible for the quality check of Rapid Access referrals ensuring that all relevant information is present before the clinical triage takes place. You will liaise with the GP practices and any other services to ensure that all relevant information is collated.
You will be required to work across a range of IT systems to coordinate the booking of patient appointments. The post holder will work both directly and indirectly with patients and their carers to assist in coordinating the care of patients through their hospital care journey, providing the patient with the relevant information and coordinate any test preparations that need to be sent or collected by the patient The post will require the coordination of appropriate services to maximise the delivery of streamlined diagnostic pathways, thereby improving quality of care and experience for patients and their carers, and diagnosing cancer earlier.
It is expected that the post holder can work autonomously, using their own initiative and within a specialised team. The post holder is expected to be a highly experienced within the hospital setting with knowledge and evidence of specialised terminology, educated to a level required to perform the role or equivalent experience. The post holder will actively support and contribute to the requirements of the service and ensure compliance with performance targets and quality standards required at a local and national level.

Essential criteria
- Level 3 health or social care qualification
- GCSE Maths and English (or functional skills)
