Working full time: 37.5 hours per week 

You will join the Estates Team to assist in the necessary maintenance tasks to ensure the safe and continuous operation of buildings located in the Trust.

You will undertake specific maintenance tasks in relation to Water Safety and will assist in maintenance and repair across the range of buildings within The Countess of Chester complex. Reporting to the Estates Officer Building, the post-holder will typically cover a 37.5-hour week over a 5-day operation (Monday to Friday).

In return, the Trust offers a generous benefits package including a career average pension scheme and annual leave entitlement commencing at 27 days increasing to a maximum 33 days per annum plus bank holidays with service and can offer flexible start/finishing times. The Trust also believes it is important to support your health and wellbeing throughout your employment, so it offers a generous sickness pay entitlement scheme to support its employees to recover from illness. Some overtime may be offered, and this will attract enhanced rates of pay.

Formal training and qualifications will be offered as required to ensure competence within this role with further training to further enhance the role moving forward.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

1. You will assist with and carry out routine maintenance tasks, including statutory, mandatory and planned minor repair works to a range of buildings and their components (after in house training as required).
2. You will liaise with the Estates Officer to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary.
3. You will undertake and assist with essential works and general maintenance activities at the request of the Estates Officer.
4. You will be available in work via the handheld device system (training provided) to contribute and work towards the safety and welfare of patients and other staff and respond to any incidents e.g., fire, flood, trapped patients.
5. You will assist maintenance crafts persons as a “second person” in various tasks.
6. You will be responsible for cleaning and repairing complex large facility guttering systems.
7. You will be responsible for mounting essential IPC products via IPC prescribed and compliant methods.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.                                                                

 The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £23 (standard) or £43 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first three months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. A small annual fee of £13 per year applies.

New entrants to the NHS will commence on the minimum of the scale stated above.
