The Division of Planned Care are excited to offer this newly created role of Nurse Consultant in Colorectal.
The post holder will work as an independent consultant practitioner delivering a comprehensive service to patients, employing a high degree of personal and professional autonomy demonstrating highly advanced clinical expertise, competence, levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in all aspects of clinical care. Demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to the identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of the patient group.
The post holder will contribute to the clinical and strategic direction for the development of the service and will be a key member of the senior clinical and management team, providing senior leadership and influencing organisational initiatives related to the specialist area. Lead the development and implementation of a research strategy within the service, resulting in increased research activity and wider understanding of the service.
They will work in partnership with clinical, nursing, managerial and administrative teams.

The Nurse Consultant will work as part of the Colorectal Team, working within the scope of practice. They will exercise advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care, which may include highly complex disease presentation.
The Nurse Consultant will take responsibility for leading and strategically developing the Colorectal Cancer Service and manage the rapid assessment service for suspected Colorectal cancers and to support delivery of the faster diagnosis standard for the Trust. They will also support development of holistic care from diagnosis, prehab, through to palliation.
The Nurse Consultant will act as a clinical expert and professional resource to the multi-professional team, patients, and carers within their specialist service. They will liaise and collaborate with colleagues in the delivery of high quality, clinically effective care, prioritising, and utilising evidence-based best practice. Working autonomously, the Nurse Consultant will utilise their advanced clinical expertise to develop and implement Colorectal clinical pathways in line with national guidance and deliver appropriate interventions.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
- The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.
- Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
- Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £23 (standard) or £43 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first three months of employment.
