Job overview

The Radiology service is looking to appoint in to two posts for Reporting Radiographers, who will be required to work specifically within chest and abdomen and musculoskeletal reporting specialties (to be discussed at interview and allocation to be determined upon appointment). 

The main Radiology departments in Hywel Dda University Health Board are at Glangwili General Hospital in Carmarthen, Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli, Withybush General Hospital in Haverfordwest and Bronglais General Hospital in Aberystwyth.  

You may be based at your chosen location, however, there will be a need to travel to other sites within the health board for mentorship, if training is required. 

Main duties of the job

Applicants must be a Registered Health Professional with an appropriate postgraduate qualification. There may be a requirement to work flexible hours to meet service demands, and a flexible work pattern will be considered. Evidence of CPD and audit will be required.

You will contribute to the plain film reporting of images from across the Health Board.

You will need to have a flexible approach to the needs of the service, be open to change and able to work independently and within an established team.

The successful applicant will possess excellent communication / organisational skills, be tactful and diplomatic. You will be involved in the supervision of student radiographers as well as Radiographers undertaking Reporting courses.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:

Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post is advertised as a Band 7, however applicants who do not currently hold all the necessary competencies to a Band 7 level are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under Annex 21 rules. During the first year payment will be 70% of the top rate of band 7 pay, and the second year 75%. Applicants would be supported to develop their competencies required to fulfil the role within 12 months. Following successful completion and successful attainment of skills and competences for the role, the post holder will then be paid at band 7 (minimum point on the scale). Failure to achieve the competencies in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment. 

As part of the Annex 21 process, there is no financial penalty to those who apply for this role where the percentage will cause a reduction in pay, subsequently a local protection would be put in place until the pay has caught up.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • BSc Radiography (or recognised equivalent)
  • HCPC registration
  • Post graduate qualification in reporting of radiographic images suitable for the role advertised
Desirable criteria
  • PG Diploma/M level module in further imaging modalities

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience in a senior Radiographic role with experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Previous NHS experience
Desirable criteria
  • Wide experience of senior radiography / junior management

Language Skills

Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
