Job overview

The Tritech Institute and Innovation division (part of the Research and Innovation Department at Hywel Dda University Health Board) aims to support the development and evaluation of innovative solutions in healthcare (both technologies and more general innovations).  Tritech has a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, scientists and engineers who have a track record of working with companies, academics and innovators to support investigations and evaluations to contribute to benefits for patients, staff and the wider health economy.  

The principal project manager will be a key member of the team and be expected to work without supervision, developing and problem solving on a wide range of highly complex duties. They will support the management of the Tritech and Innovation division and provide leadership across the broad spectrum of activity delivered by Tritech. The range of assigned tasks will be carried out with the highest standard to support Tritech’s research and innovation agenda.

This health board-wide and externally facing post will also be tasked with developing clinical investigators, securing funding and representing the Health Board in working with academia, pharma and industry and the third sector to increase Innovation within Hywel Dda University Health Board.  Success will ultimately be measured by the research activity generated, impact on patient outcomes, and income generated to support the ongoing viability of the venture.

Main duties of the job

The Main duties of this senior role will be:

• Lead and manage the programme of work at the Tritech Institute and Innovation Division in Hywel Dda UHB, to ensure the achievement of the yearly key performance indicators.

• Supporting the management of the wider Tritech and Innovation team (including clinical scientists, research and innovation nurses & research and innovation assistants).

• Responsible for developing and capturing new research and innovation projects by working with internal and external partners. This will also include preparing funding bids and commercial collaboration documents to enable the conduct of research and innovation activities.

• Ensuring Tritech and Innovation promote the delivery and objectives of the Research and Innovation strategy and Social Innovation Institute for Hywel Dda UHB.

•   Contribute to the key performance indicators applying to the research and development department.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services to almost 400,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. 48 General Practices (GP surgeries), 49 Dental Practices, 98 Community Pharmacies (chemists), 44 General Ophthalmic Practices (including eye health and low vision services), 38 sites providing mental health and learning disability services, care within your own homes

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Master level qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Further specialist training preferably in Healthcare management
  • Evidence of continued Professional Development
  • Extensive project management experience (with relevant quilification)
Desirable criteria
  • A PhD or equivalent
  • The ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries within a multi disciplinary environment.
  • Management experience at a senior level

Expereince

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of management and managing successful Projects/programmes at a senior level
  • Significant experience working in a research and innovation role.
  • Significant experience of successfully delivering projects in complex and challenging environments
  • Experience of effective stakeholder working with external bodies including commercial/academic partners.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience of NHS clinical trials arrangements and governance
  • Significant experience for taking responsibility for accuracy and completeness of information and providing leadership and advice to junior team members.

Other

Essential criteria
  • Travel around Wales and possibly further afield on a regular basis
  • Amenable to change as required
