Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our friendly front of house team at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.
This post will support turnaround at front door and outreach into the community as well as being a valued member of our 6 bedded frailty assessment unit.
The team are innovative and proactive, they consist of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team with focus on home first, striving to deliver the right support, at the right time in the right place as close to home as possible.
Our approach is to deliver patient care in a holistic, person-centred manner, supporting patients, when possible, to return safely to their own homes where they may continue to be a valued member of their own community, within which they are most familiar and settled.
There will be opportunities for learning and development and mileage expenses are available.
Main duties of the job
As a versatile postgraduate, you will have a strong clinical grounding in older peoples rehabilitation, complex manual handling, and frailty, as well as a good understanding of current issues affecting acute and community services.
Successful applicants will require an excellent ability to work autonomously, managing and prioritising a diverse and unpredictable caseload, with the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing and pressurised environment alongside members of the multidisciplinary team.

Working for our organisation
Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services to almost 400,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:
Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest.
Five community hospitals: Amman Valley Hospital and Llandovery Hospital in Carmarthenshire, Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire.
Two integrated care centres (Aberaeron and Cardigan, Ceredigion).
Community facilities, including:
48 General Practices (GP surgeries), 49 Dental Practices, 98 Community Pharmacies (chemists), 44 General Ophthalmic Practices (including eye health and low vision services), 38 sites providing mental health and learning disability services, care within your own homes

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As an Occupational Therapy service, we recognise that our staff are our strongest asset and investment into the individual as a person as much as their professional development is important. We actively promote post-graduate study with shared funding opportunities. The pandemic has taught us more than ever the importance of work life balance and we encourage remote working when appropriate and flexible working arrangements.
The post holder will be required to participate in the provision of a flexible 7 day service, based on service need. This will be on a rota basis.

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Current HCPC registration
- Knowledge of relevant current health and social care legislation applicable to role.
- Knowledge and application of Microsoft Office software.
- Understanding of the roles of other staff groups in health and social care.
- Knowledge of a range of rehabilitation interventions across all therapies.
- Understanding and application of clinical governance, including research and audit methodology.
- Understanding and application of relevant outcome measures to demonstrate effectiveness.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of other services that link across primary/second ary/intermediate care.
- Working knowledge of therapeutic equipment.
- Knowledge of Health Board and priorities.
- Accredited Practice Educator.
- Accredited Agored Assessor.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post graduate experience of working as an occupational therapist across a range of settings and variety of conditions.
- Managing a complex and varied caseload.
- Working independently with indirect or arms length supervision.
- Delegation and Supervision of staff.
- Experience of coping independently with distressing or emotional situations in challenging work environments.
- Working as part of a team.
- Experience of contributing to service development and implementing service changes.
- Direct involvement with carers and families.
- Self-development and application of learning.
- Use of adapted techniques for improving patient outcomes.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with groups
- Experience of working in a community setting
- Experience of using virtual communication platforms for delivering service
- Experience in same clinical area as post being applied for
