 An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a enthusiastic, motivated and forward thinking Clinical Pharmacist to lead the pharmacy service provided to the admission team based in Withybush General Hospital.

The successful applicant will join a well-established team of pharmacy staff providing care to a wide range of medical and surgical specialities including coronary care, acute stoke, respiratory,  trauma & orthopaedics,  medicines information, critical care, acute frailty and the emergency department. The hospital has a newly established streaming hub (Porth Preseli) which is an innovative and leading area within the health board and the opportunity to work closely with the hub will be encouraged. 

Main duties of the job

As the interim Lead Pharmacist for admissions you will be responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of a patient focused clinical pharmacy service to the front of house- Adult Clinical Decision Unit (ACDU) and  Emergency Department (ED).  You would have the opportunity to be involved in the development of newly evolving services, such as Porth Preseli and provide support to other areas when necessary.

You will be part of our friendly/passionate pharmacy team and contribute to the implementation of medicines optimisation, striving for excellence. You will provide a specialist and professional service to enable us to meet high standards of patient care and safety, working together with the multi-disciplinary surgical team. You will be involved in the education and training of pharmacy colleagues and other healthcare professionals.

This role will be situated in Withybush General Hospital which is a busy District General Hospital with approximately 270 beds. 

Fixed term/secondment for 12 months until 31/01/2026 to cover maternity leave.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Masters degree in Pharmacy
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate MSc or Diploma in area of practice or equivalent experience or qualifications
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited Pre registration tutor or pharmacy diploma tutor
  • Independent prescriber
  • Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines (Leeds University) or equivalent if role includes aseptics
  • Registered as QC if role includes aseptics
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge of medicines management systems and process in an integrated NHS
  • Knowledge and experience of healthcare
  • Specialist knowledge of own field of practice gained through diploma level training and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge in more than one field.
  • Practice Research Experience
  • Training and education of pharmacy staff and other HCPs
  • Experience of managing change
  • Experience of service improvement

Language requirements

  • Welsh speaker - level 1

Other

Essential criteria
  • Flexible approach to needs of the service to undertake on call work, weekend and evening opening.
