Job overview
Doctors wishing to apply for this post must have full registration with the General Medical Council and shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least 2 years of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
We welcome applications for this substantive post from a range of clinical backgrounds including Primary Care. Full training will be given so interested candidates who lack experience in bone health management should not be deterred. This post suits applicants at ST3-ST4 level with extensive Out-patient experience. Virtual clinics can be undertaken remotely, with at least 1 day on site at Withybush Hospital.
Withybush General Hospital is a busy regional hospital providing general services for West Wales (General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics included). The acute medical intake is mainly unselected and the post holder would be expected to equally share emergency medical admissions with general medical colleagues from all disciplines (Geriatrics, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Respiratory). Renal and Neurology support are regional services provided by Swansea hospitals. The hospital includes a large ACCU facility run by Consultant Intensive Care staff who work closely with medical colleagues.
Main duties of the job
The Pembrokeshire Osteoporosis Service provides specialist bone health management to the population of Pembrokeshire ranging in age from late teenage years to the very elderly. We routinely use virtual consultations and provide face to face assessments if required. Our patient centred practice aims to help patients to make decisions that are right for them.
The applicant for this additional post will work closely with the existing team managing their own caseload reviewing new and existing patients and participating in weekly MDT meetings. Osteoporosis Services are developing rapidly within the Health Board and include a Health Board wide Fracture Liaison Service which is currently being implemented. We offer a full range of bone health treatments including non-oral anti-resorptives and different types of anabolic therapy.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- - MBBS or recognised equivalent.
- - Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice.
- - MRCP / MRCGP or equivalent
- - 4 years full time postgraduate training (or part time equivalent), at least 2 of which in a speciality training programme in a relevant specialty.
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- - Experience of working in healthcare settings including experience of managing patients in an outpatient setting.
- - Interest in Bone Frailty/Osteoporosis.
- - The ability to apply knowledge and work as part of a wider team, incorporating working with adjacent services.
Desirable criteria
- - Wider medical experience or experience in research and training in providing a relevant subspecialty service.
- - Experience of working in virtual outpatient services.
- - Additional relevant clinical qualification(s).
- - Experience of the NHS.
Clinical Governance
Essential criteria
- - Participation in clinical audit and QI work, including an understanding the role of audit in improving medical practice.
