Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced specialty doctor in general surgery to join a dynamic, busy surgical department at Withybush General Hospital.  The post is fixed term for 12 months. 

This post comes during a period of Health Board-wide service reviews, this is an exciting time to contribute to a comprehensive reconfiguration of health services in West Wales. The aim is to provide a spectrum of flexible and responsive surgical services across the Health Board. The post holder would be an integral part of delivering this vision along with other surgical colleagues within the department. 

 

Main duties of the job

To participate in providing elective and emergency General Surgery services  to the hospital and community with a responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness with your Consultant.

To provide effective leadership to all junior staff engaged in the specialty.

To participate, sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate. We have a highly successful peer mentoring programme, in which you are encouraged to take an active part.

To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board’s procedures and operating policies.
To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Health Board’s service plans.

Applicants should demonstrate experience and knowledge of contributing to a sub specialty service, Colorectal Surgery Leadership and team building skills as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team Supporting and training multidisciplinary teams

To undertake regular multidisciplinary clinical audit and provide evidence based medicine 

As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board’s patients.

•    Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration
  • - Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
  • - ATLS/PALS/ ALS
  • 4 years full-time postgraduate training (or part-time equivalent), at least 2 of which in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty
  • MRCS/FRCS

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • - Broad based experience in General Surgery
  • - Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
  • - Knowledge and participation in CPD
Desirable criteria
  • - Experience of NHS
  • - Wider experience, research and training in providing sub specialty service
  • - Additional clinical qualification(s)
