The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2024/2025 and will be implemented in November 2024 backdated to 1st April 2024 where applicable.

Job overview
This is a replacement post for a motivated individual with an interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia to join our enthusiastic and forward looking team in delivering high quality anaesthesia, analgesia and resuscitation to the population of Carmarthenshire.
This appointment is Health Board wide, with your principal place of employment being Glangwili General Hospital with sessions in Prince Phillip Hospital although other working locations including off site working may necessary and will be agreed as part of your job plan.
Main duties of the job
Weekly Labour ward and elective caesarean list sessions.
Broad base of practice in general anaesthesia in DGH practice, including General surgical, Colorectal, Paediatric, ENT, Urology and Gynaecology.
One in 15 on-call commitment primarily covering Glangwili Hospital but also providing support to resident anaesthetic cover in Prince Phillip Hospital in Llanelli.

48 General Practices (GP surgeries), 49 Dental Practices, 98 Community Pharmacies (chemists), 44 General Ophthalmic Practices (including eye health and low vision services), 38 sites providing mental health and learning disability services, care within your own homes
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full and specialist GMC Registration in Anaesthetics with a Licence to Practice
- Certificate of Completion of Training in anaesthetics or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration in Anaesthetics (or equivalent) or within 6 months of issue of CCT
- Or CESR or equivalent European Qualifications for Specialist Registration
- Fellowship of the Royal College of anaesthetics (FRCA) (or equivalent)
- Batchelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree
Desirable criteria
- Appropriate Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad based experience in Anaesthesia
- Intermediate training in obstetric anaesthesia
- Recent senior trainee, fellow or locum Consultant level experience in Anaesthesia (or equivalent)
- Sufficient experience to participate in on-call provision of paediatric resuscitation and stabilisation services alongside paediatric colleagues
- Evidence of valid advanced life support skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within the NHS in Wales
- Higher or Advanced training in Obstetric Anaesthesia
Clinical Governance & Research
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in clinical governance
Desirable criteria
- Participation in a research project
- Publication in a medical textbook or peer reviewed journal
- Presentation at a national or international medical conference
Personal Development & Teaching
Essential criteria
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Evidence of participation in teaching sessions for doctors, medical students or other multi-disciplinary staff
- Experience of supervising junior doctors
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of organising educational programmes for doctors, medical students or other multi-disciplinary staff
- Medical education qualification
Management
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS

- Evidence of management training

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
