An exciting opportunity has arisen in Hywel Dda University Health Board to join our acute Trauma and Orthopaedic physiotherapy team, within the in-patient Trauma and Orthopaedic department in Glangwili Hospital. This is an innovative focused team in place to support the recovery and rehabilitation of patients across the acute Trauma and Orthopaedics and community settings. As the hospital is the Major Trauma Unit for Hywel Dda University Health Board, the post will involve working with in-patient trauma in a full range of conditions; including fragility fractures, upper and lower limb trauma, major trauma repatriations and will also involve the Trauma and Orthopaedic outreach services. 

The post holder will be working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team including  Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social workers,  Nursing staff,  Doctors, Discharge Liaison Nurses and Major Trauma Network colleagues, in order to maximise patient outcomes. 

Main duties of the job

Duties will include supporting and completing holistic patient assessments, for a range of conditions  with consideration of rehabilitation needs and strategies/options to aid a safe and timely discharge. 

The post holder will play a pivotal role in delivering rehabilitation to patients admitted to the Trauma and Orthopaedic wards, this could include bed, chair, and standing activities, gait re-education, and gym based exercise programmes. To facilitate continuity of patient care, this post will involve a degree of out-reaching into the community. We place strong emphasis on patient-centred care to foster independence and wellbeing. 

You will be expected to support patients at times alone, though all work undertaken will be under the guidance of qualified Physiotherapists.  Recognition of your scope of practice is of paramount importance to recognise when qualified support is required. 

The University Health Board proactively supports training and development both as part of internal and external CPD and you will be expected to complete appropriate mandatory training.

As the service is working towards providing a seven day service, please note candidates will be required to be able to support a seven-day rota as and when this comes into place.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
