Job overview

Hywel Dda University Health Board is seeking an experienced, flexible and motivated infection prevention nurse to provide expert, visible and strategic leadership for infection prevention services for the Health Board. 

You will be an experienced infection prevention nurse with a proven track record in delivering excellence in infection prevention and control, monitoring healthcare associated infection (HCAI) rates to improve patient experience. You will ensure a robust assurance framework is in place for infection prevention and control in line with governance requirements as set out by the health board and national guidelines.

We are seeking an individual with excellent communication and organisational skills who will provide expert, visible and strategic professional leadership for the infection prevention team. The ability to work with and influence other multi-professional colleagues to drive improvement and governance in the management and prevention of infection is a key part of this role. 

Main duties of the job

You will line manage the Infection Prevention Team of nurses in acute and community settings. The team will provide infection prevention advice to all areas through a combination of on-site presence and remote advice to underpin infection prevention and control practices to deliver safe, effective and efficient use of resources to support patient care.

The successful candidate will have considerable freedom to act to deliver the health board’s infection prevention reduction expectations and control measures.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Educated to Masters level
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD in relation to infection prevention

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working at a senior nursing management level
  • Experience of leadership and management development
  • Experience of managing a team and leading programmes of change and improvement
  • Presenting and delivering teaching programmes to clinical groups
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using digital platforms
