This is an exciting opportunity to work in primary care delivering a new palpitations service. The purpose is to see patients with these symptoms, determine a diagnosis and ensure they receive treatment and lifestyle advice. The clinical role is open to applicants from Allied Health Professionals, Healthcare Science Professions and Nursing and offers an exciting opportunity for experienced individuals, confident in the diagnosis and management of cardiac arrhythmia. 

The clinics will be delivered in primary care venues across Carmarthenshire and the service is strongly supported by practice teams. Therefore, the ability to travel in a timely manner between venues is essential. Clinical support and supervision are provided by the community cardiac arrhythmia team, based at Glangwili Hospital.

The service is designed to investigate and diagnose patients with symptoms suggestive of cardiac arrhythmia, discuss and advise management and treatment plans in conjunction with senior medical staff and advanced practitioners. In addition, the service delivers education and expert advice relating to the recognition cardiac arrhythmia, diagnosis, and management of cardiac rhythm disease. 

Main duties of the job

Autonomously deliver a caseload of patients with highly complex needs, using evidence-based, client centred principles to critically analyse, assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. This will include education, health promotion and support on all aspects of the patient's treatment and management plan.

Work collaboratively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team across different pathways and care settings to ensure the health care needs of patients are met. This will include continual evaluation of the current service and reflection on own practice.

Act as an expert resource to other health professionals across a number of settings, monitor and support services, and participating in pathway development, education research and audit, whilst continually developing and updating knowledge and highly specialist skills required for the role.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Allied Health Professional, Healthcare Science Professional or Nurse or with evidence of relevant registration
  • Relevant Degree
  • Relevant Post Graduate cardiac course at level 7 or equivalent
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Knowledge and understanding of key clinical guidelines e.g. NICE and how these will influence clinical practice
  • Relevant Masters level qualification, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience and skills
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised teaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Clinical assessment and diagnostic module or willingness to undertake as per role requirement
  • Leadership qualification
  • Quality improvement qualification
  • Counselling qualification
  • Non-medical prescriber or willingness to undertake as per role requirement

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration experience including working in one or more cardiac pathways
  • Experience of undertaking Allied Health Professional, Healthcare Scientist (clinical physiology) or nurse led clinics
  • Experience of undertaking patient education sessions
