Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Healthcare Science Practitioner.
This is a health board wide position, but the successful candidate will be primality based in Carmarthenshire. The role work will focus on adult ENT work, diagnostic and rehabilitative Audiology.
We are seeking a candidate who shares our values and commitment to ensuring the quality of our services. Members of staff are fully supported through the appraisal process where aspirations and training needs are identified and discussed.
Main duties of the job
To interpret and report results, to decide on intervention strategies and to explain and discuss results with patients/significant parties as required.
Testing techniques will include: otoscopy, diagnostic audiometry and tympanometry.
To adapt testing technique for adults with additional needs
To assess needs, plan and implement appropriate rehabilitation strategies for new and existing hearing aid users, explaining and advising on the intervention strategies, discussing decisions with patients and amending when necessary.
Routine use of software based hearing aid selection and programming facilities to assist in complex decision making over hearing aid settings and functions.
To provide counselling to patients of varying ages and capacity and their significant others
Producing short and long term rehabilitation plans for patient treatment
To provide a hearing aid review service checking on patients progress in
accordance with appropriate guidelines.
Selection, testing and acoustic fitting of the latest technology hearing aids,
incorporating verification measures.
To provide hearing aid maintenance and repair service, which will include, cleaning, modification, repair/replacement, advice, counselling and instruction services.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Degree: BSc in audiology or equivalent.
- RCCP or HCPC (Health Scientist/Hearing Aid Dispenser) registration or equivalent.
- Knowledge of Adult Diagnostic and Rehabilitative Audiology.
- Knowledge of Paediatric school-age hearing assessment.
- Knowledge of the requirements of the Welsh Adult Rehabilitation Quality Standards.
- Knowledge of AuditBase
Desirable criteria
- Member of BAA /BSA
- Knowledge of Adult and Paediatric Audiology Quality Standards
- Evidence of management/ Supervision qualifications or courses.
- Knowledge of procurements systems.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Diagnostic Hearing Assessment
- Hearing Aid Fitting using Real Ear Measurements
- Supervision/ training / assisting in the training of assistant audiologists, degree students on clinical placement or audiologists.
- Use of AuditBase booking, waiting list, programming and testing modules.
- School-age hearing assessment.
Desirable criteria
- Assisting with vestibular assessments and rehabilitation.
- Tinnitus management
- Use of TEOAEs.
- Managing organiising, organising or supervising Audiology clinics.
- Ordering and maintaining stock levels.
- Use of MS Excel spreadsheets
Other

- Able to travel across sites in a timely manner
- Able to work hours flexibly to meet the needs of the service
