Job overview

We are excited to advertise this Consultant Practitioner – Breast,  position as part of the expansion of Velindre Cancer Centre to our brand new Satellite centre based at Neville Hall Hospital, Abergavenny. The post is to be based at the Satellite centre with multisite working based on the service requirements, part of which you will help to develop within this role.

This is a Band 8b annex 21 position with a training period of up to 2 years dependent on skills and experience.

Consultant Therapy Radiographer -Breast will be a key member of the tumour site specialist multidisciplinary team, providing a seamless pathway for patients receiving radiotherapy, acting as an autonomous, expert practitioner with responsibility for assessing, treating and following up their own caseload of patients. They will act as an expert resource and senior clinical lead advising other specialist services within the region. The post holder will operate at a “higher level of practice” consistent with standards outlined by the Society and College of radiographers (SCoR) and the Health care Professional Council (HCPC) and in accordance with local and national policies.

Main duties of the job

 To provide a comprehensive Therapeutic Radiographer Consultant service for patients requiring radiotherapy.

To be an integral part of the MDT, participating in the development of standards and guidelines related to practice of radiotherapy and ensuring the highest possible care for their group of patients

·The post holder is an expert resource for patients receiving radiotherapy treatment for cancer working closely with the Consultant Oncologists.

To practice at an expert advanced level, providing expert care for patients undergoing radiotherapy for cancer, improving service delivery to patients whilst optimising the use of existing resources and developing services.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications / Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Professional qualification as a Therapeutic Radiographer (DCR (T) or BSc/PgDip)
  • Registration with Health Care Professions Council UK
  • Evidence of CPD (continuing professional development) gained through short courses at Masters level or equivalent
  • Specialist training to Masters level (MSc) in Radiotherapy or Health Sciences and documented and validated experiential advanced /expert practice
  • A highly specialised and detailed Knowledge and understanding of principles and concepts underpinning the broad range and the more specialist applications and techniques used in radiotherapy
  • Expert knowledge of current technologies in Radiotherapy – Treatment and Pre-Treatment
  • Knowledge of current oncology issues including national guidelines
  • Full knowledge of radiation regulations
  • Awareness of national guidelines and protocols radiotherapy/oncology
  • Knowledge of research and audit methodology
  • Knowledge of cancer waits
  • Evidence of continuing personal and professional development
  • Knowledge of current techniques and developments in Radiotherapy
Desirable criteria
  • PhD award in relevant subject
  • Management qualification/ study
  • Knowledge and experience in tumour outlining (MSc in oncology/cancer)
  • Qualified and registered Supplementary/ independent prescriber

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge, competence and clinical experience in core radiotherapy relating to tumour site
  • Significant experience working in multidisciplinary teams

  • Experience of working autonomously with responsibility for patient list in clinic settings
