We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate to join the Health Improvement Division within Public Health Wales as a Senior Public Health Practitioner in the national MECC programme team.

Working with a range of stakeholders at a national, regional and local level, the role will involve supporting the development, implementation and evaluation of the national MECC Programme. The post is a permanent part time 0.6 WTE post.

MECC is an approach to behaviour change that aims to utilise the millions of day to day interactions that organisations and individuals have with members of the public to support them in making positive changes to their physical and mental health and wellbeing. MECC empowers staff working across the health and care system to recognise the role they have in preventing ill health and equips them with the skills and knowledge needed to confidently initiate appropriate and effective behaviour change conversations with the people they meet

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the Healthy Settings Team, the postholder will be responsible for co-ordinating the development and implementation of MECC.

This includes establishing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders including Welsh Government, HEIW, Health Boards and Local Public Health Teams, Local Authorities and the voluntary sector.

With significant experience of working effectively across different sectors and agencies, the postholder will be comfortable working with a broad range of stakeholders across Wales.

This post presents an opportunity to work within a staff structure dedicated to systems-working and a multi-agency approach to health improvement.  Within the  Health Improvement Division we have a strong focus on evaluation, developing the evidence base, and communicating for improved engagement. All staff within the Division are responsible for developing a shared understanding of the inter-dependencies between topics and settings and supporting colleagues across the Division, organisation and partner agencies.

Specific duties will be agreed with the Principal Public Health Practitioner and Consultant Lead (Healthy NHS Settings Programme) upon appointment.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
