Specialist Occupational Therapist, Spinal Rehabilitation
A rare opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and suitably skilled Occupational Therapist to join our spinal rehabilitation team based at the Llandough Centre for Specialist Spinal and Neurorehabilitation. This is an exciting period as we currently progressing development of the Occupational Therapy offer across the full spinal pathway.
This post is based in the Spinal Rehabilitation Centre - a regional tertiary centre and the only dedicated spinal unit in Wales.
We wish to appoint an ambitious and motivated individual with excellent communication skills, effective team working and a passion for rehabilitation and service improvement. Experience of rehabilitation, neurology or complex disability management would support this role.
Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
You will work with patients with a range of complex needs following spinal cord injury, developing knowledge and rehabilitation skills within this specialist service.
Patients transferred for specialist rehabilitation present with complex/highly complex rehabilitation needs. Occupational Therapy offer focuses on what matters and includes occupation focused interventions, postural management/seating to optimise engagement in environment and rehabilitation, upper limb rehabilitation plus promotion of self management. Complex discharge planning/repatriation includes timely management of regional interagency referrals/communications supporting discharge and ensuring environmental/equipment/support needs are optimised.
Through coproduction you will develop individualised rehabilitation plans working with the full multi-professional team including the newly embedded rehabilitation coaches who offer additional rehabilitation opportunity. You will hold the role of keyworker, organise and facilitate regular goal planning meetings for one/two patients, promoting communication and engagement throughout the rehabilitation process.
Opportunities to engage in service improvement are encouraged and promoted.
Continuous professional development is promoted and encouraged. Induction and training including opportunities to shadow across the pathway will be provided.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

- Recognised qualification degree / equivalent in Occupational Therapy
- Holds professional registration as awarded by the Health & Care Professionals Council (HCPC).
- Specialist training/courses to Postgraduate Diploma level
Experience

- Significant post registration experience in rehabilitation relevant to the post
- Experience as working as part of an MDT
- Active involvement in service development and quality initiatives

- Experience working with neurological conditions.
Skills

- Demonstrate specialist skills within neuro, rehabilitation or disability management
- Highly developed physical skills relevant to the clinical area e.g. manual techniques and therapeutic handling

Special knowledge
