A new opportunity has arisen for a Dental Educator to join the Dental Deanery to lead on different aspects of education for dental professionals in Wales including:
- managing the Dentists with Enhanced Skills accreditation framework
- developing effective and relevant online learning material
- directing and future planning the provision of the Developing the Dental Educator course
Main duties of the job
Responsible for overseeing, managing and quality assuring the Dentist with Enhanced Skills (DES) accreditation framework across a range of dental specialties.
Lead on the commissioning, provision, direction and future planning of Developing the Dental Educator (DDE) for the dental profession.
Develop effective and relevant online learning material that enhances learning and professional development for the dental profession

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Fully registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) with no conditions
- A higher diploma/degree in medical/dental education
- Outstanding professional record both clinically and in education and training
- Experience working as a NHS General Dental Practitioner
Desirable criteria
- Registered as a specialist with the GDC
- Membership/Fellowship of a Royal College in the United Kingdom
Skills & Attributes
Essential criteria
- Ability to work as member of a multi-professional team
- Proven ability to implement, monitor and report on quality and outcomes and address areas of concern appropriately
Other
Essential criteria
- Commitment and motivation with ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
- Flexible approach to work to meet the needs of business
- Ability to travel as necessary to fulfil the role
Experience
Essential criteria
- A combination of experience/knowledge of all sectors of dentistry, including delivering dentistry in secondary and primary care
- A good academic record with evidence of involvement in the delivery and management of dental education and training
- Evidence and involvement of adult dental postgraduate education, theory, and practice
- Knowledge of the structure and working of the NHS dental services in Wales, and experience of interpreting local and national policies
Desirable criteria
- Regional or national experience of committee work relating to postgraduate dental education
- Organisation of Postgraduate Dental Education and Training in the UK
Skills & Attributes
Essential criteria
- Experience of communicating, and influencing at a senior level with both internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills reflecting the values of compassionate leadership
- Computer literate with a knowledge of modern educational technology that is used to support learning
- Possession of educational skills, particularly presentation, counselling, mentoring and motivational skills
- Proven ability to implement, monitor and report on quality and outcomes and address areas of concern appropriately
- Ability to work as member of a multi-professional team
Desirable criteria
- Welsh speaker (level 1) or willingness to work towards this level
