Consultant

Living Well, Caring Well, Working Together

Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Endocrinology & Acute Medicine based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff.

The appointee will be a member of the team, contributing to the provision of a high-quality service including Referral to Treatment targets and other relevant quality standards.  The appointment is to support the endocrine and thyroid service as well as provide acute medicine support.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales.  The basic salary range for this post is £100,000 per annum to £146,000 per annum.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full.  In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in UHW as part of the Acute Medicine Directorate and the Clinical Board of Medicine to further develop the clinical processes to ensure that the pathways of unscheduled care for medical patients in the Health Board are safe and effective. It is anticipated that post holders will increasingly work in new ways with colleagues in the Emergency Unit (EU) and in-patient specialties to achieve these corporate objectives. We are currently part of a Consultant Connect service offering GP advice and guidance to redirect patients to the best pathway as well as reduce EU, AU and MEAU admissions.

The appointee will be expected to provide excellent communication with GPs and other members of Endocrine and Diabetes Multidisciplinary Teams. The post holder will contribute to the education and training of junior medical staff and the education of GP’s and Nurses.

There is a commitment to deliver specialised Endocrine support for people living in Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. On-site clinical teams can provide patient input in between times and arranged basic endocrine function testing as required.
