Are you someone who is interested in improving population health and health equity? Are you an experienced researcher interested in expanding your role to policy and practice, or someone looking for their first research and evaluation post?

Public Health Wales is looking for someone to join their Research and Evaluation team to help Wales realise the ambition of our Healthy Weight Healthy Wales Strategy and delivery plan. We are looking for people with interest and experience in developing and applying rigorous mixed methods approaches to help us better understand and evidence the impact of public health action.

Main duties of the job

You will join the Health Improvement Division within Public Health Wales to contribute to an applied programme of public health research and evaluation (extending to policy and practice), providing specialist advice and expertise across the Division and delivering support to our external partners.

You will contribute to specific projects by scoping, designing and delivering research to determine the impact of public health related policy initiatives, practice and interventions on health. This includes our whole systems

approach to healthy weight, generating actionable learning for the organisation and partners and delivering trusted and academically robust evidence to inform action across policy and/or practice agendas at local and national levels.

You will bring an understanding of the principles of evaluation and experience in the application of research methods, both qualitative and quantitative. You will use excellent communication and influencing skills to build collaborative working relationships, working with teams inside and outside of Public Health Wales.

Working for our organisation

We are Public Health Wales – the national public health organisation for Wales. Our purpose is ‘working together for a healthier Wales'. We exist to help all people in Wales live longer, healthier lives. With our partners, we aim to increase healthy life expectancy, improve health and well-being, and reduce inequalities for everyone in Wales, now and for future generations.

Together, our teams work to prevent disease, protect health, and provide leadership, specialist services and public health expertise. We are the main source of public health information, research and innovation in Wales.  Never more has public health been so important as we come through the Coronavirus pandemic, face the challenges of the cost-of-living crisis and tackle and prevent the harmful effects of climate change.

Our organisation is guided by our Values, 'Working together, with trust and respect, to make a difference'. We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace that values equality, diversity and inclusion.  We welcome applications which represent the rich diversity of the communities we serve and from those wishing to work part time or on a job share basis.
