We are looking for a positive enthusiastic person to join our Imaging team as a Health Care Assistant.

The successful applicant needs to have good communication skills and have the ability to work with a wide variety of people.

You need not have previous experience, but it is essential that you have willingness to care and put patients first. You will be supported in learning how our department runs and what is expected of you in this role.

This role provides support to the Professional staff in the department both through patient contact and administratively.  The post holder will be covering a variety of areas including Ultrasound, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Emergency Department, Fluoroscopy, MRI, and you will therefore be required to have a flexible approach to the working day, in order to accommodate these areas and site which include Peterborough, Stamford, City Care Centre, Hinchingbrooke and the Community Diagnostic Centre, Peterborough.

We operate 8am to 8pm 7 days a week.

Responsible for providing a range of support services to the Diagnostic Imaging Department encompassing technical and ancillary duties as allocated by qualified nursing and radiographic staff at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.  These duties will include providing relief cover of the department reception desk.  The post holder will be expected to maintain a flexible approach to changing duties and times of work.

2) Technical:

  • Undertake tasks in all areas of the department in line with departmental protocols.

This includes:

  • Ensuring all necessary documentation pertaining to patient examinations is completed, and undertake any other clerical duties as required by the Senior Radiographer(s) or designated Superintendent Radiographer.
  • Report any faults arising from the equipment.

b) Patient/Client Care:

  • To improve patient flow through the various subsections of the department, provide patient care, and provide support to other members of the Diagnostic Imaging team.

The post holder will achieve this through:

  • Timely transfer of patients to and from the ward or outpatient waiting areas as required.
  • Receiving the patients including clerking using the RIS; maintenance of the day lists and dealing with any telephone enquiries.
  • Arranging for the undressing of patients in the appropriate areas and assisting when necessary.
  • Checking patient ID and providing them with relevant information about their procedure.
  • Preparing patients for their Imaging procedure in line with their role and department imaging protocols. This includes giving water to drink and Venous cannulation for IV access.
  • Assisting patients in the imaging rooms and ensuring their comfort and safety prior to examination.
  • Chaperoning patients during examinations and escorting patients between ward and department.
  • Assist patients from Imaging Room and arrange transport, as required, also ensure the patient has any relevant information before they leave the Department.
  • To ensure the patients safety, emotional and physical well-being and dignity and treat them with respect while under the care of the radiology department.
  • Supervise waiting areas and keep all patient zones tidy, issue linen to the patient changing areas.

  • Maths and English skills equivalent to Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy

  • Completion of Care Certificate
  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health-related subject

Experience

  • Experience caring for others or providing customer service
  • Experience of working as part of a co-ordinated team but also independently

  • Previous experience within a clinical environment
  • Experience of using hospitals systems

Key Skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English in writing, via IT, verbally and using the telephone
  • Experience of using Microsoft office packages
