Job overview

12 month secondment or fixed term opportunity to become an integral part of our dynamic Urology team.

As a member of our team, you'll play a crucial role in independently supporting the clinical nurse specialist team while aiding in the planning of assessments for patients on suspected cancer pathways.

Your responsibilities will encompass a range of vital tasks, including managing systems for handling results, facilitating communications with patients as needed, scheduling appointments, and monitoring and delivering clinical outcomes. Collaborating closely with the Urology CNS team, you'll contribute to enhancing FDS and 62-day targets, ultimately elevating the standard of patient care.

Main duties of the job

This role will cover a range of administrative tasks including coordinating  necessary assessments, investigations, and appointments for patient pathways.

  • Proactively ensure patients have received eGFR results before MRI and PSA results before review clinic to prevent pathway delays.
  • Facilitate care transfers between service teams and across care interfaces.
  • Refer and signpost patients for higher-level decisions and support.
  • Triage incoming patient calls, initiating appropriate responses based on established protocols. 
  • Monitor, audit, and report on service, inputting data to Somerset cancer database.
  • Conduct pre-planned outbound calls to patients under healthcare professional guidance.
  • Contribute to clinical/quality management team reviews of pathway issues. · Ensure MDT outcomes are actioned, liaising as needed. 
  • Manage admin and results for CNS team review, supporting timely diagnoses within 28 days.
  • Monitor post-treatment surveillance, collaborating with clinical colleagues to prevent follow-up delays.
  • Book patient appointments as necessary.

Education/Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE level standard English Language at Grade A – C (or equivalent)
  • RSA II typing or equivalent experience
  • Audio typing qualification or recent relevant experience
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ II or III Business Administration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of using MS Office, particularly MS Word and Outlook
  • Previous Secretarial/Office experience
  • Experience of working with the general public and/or professionals
  • Demonstrate and understanding of customer care/ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within the NHS and an understanding of medical terminology
  • Experience of using Hospital systems, for example PAS (Patient Administration System)
