Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the day-to-day operations of Pathology IT systems, including third-party support and maintenance services.
- Providing line management and leadership for the Pathology IT team.
- Delivering efficient, safe, and effective IT services that comply with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Supporting the Pathology lead in managing the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Driving service improvements, enhancing efficiency and identifying income generation opportunities.
- Engaging in service development projects and supporting data analysis initiatives.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MSc/ Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science.
- HCPC State registration and/or experience in healthcare information systems
Desirable criteria
- Recognised postgraduate management qualification
- Quality management and or Training qualification
- ITIL V3 qualification
- Training and/or qualifications in Clinical Safety
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Highly developed specialist knowledge of a Pathology Service underpinned by theoretical and practical experience.
- Knowledge of Pathology information systems
- Awareness of current professional issues
- Evidence of the ability to manage budgets and other resources.
- To be proficient in quality and clinical audit, administration, management and development of Pathology related IT services
- Proven ability to manage, motivate and train staff
- Experience in leading services which comply with MHRA, UKAS systems and standards.
- Working understanding and awareness of clinical and other information systems
- Experience in leading projects
Key Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management systems
- Able to plan and organise complex activities
- Good presentation skills
- Strong understanding of data analysis and presentation
Desirable criteria
- Good practical knowledge of health & safety issues including COSHH, fire regulations and risk assessments

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
