Consultant Chemical Pathologist

Consultant

Job overview

Are you considering exploring further career options in a place where your hard work and innovative ideas are valued?

This is an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Chemical Pathologist to join North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust and work cross-site at our main hospital sites,  Peterborough City Hospital (PCH) and Hinchingbrooke Hospital (HH).

The Pathology Laboratory at PCH has been fully accredited to ISO 15189 standards, while the one at HH is currently undergoing accreditation. Recently, a shared laboratory information management system (LIMS, WinPath Enterprise) has been implemented, improving access to results between laboratory sites and providing a more efficient and cost-effective service to patients and service users.

You will be joining an enthusiastic and forward-thinking team to deliver biochemistry and immunology services.

You will have full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), or you will be eligible for registration within six months of the interview.

If you are UK-trained, you must also hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of the award of CCT by the date of the interview. If you are not UK-trained, you will be required to provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.

Main duties of the job

The sessional commitments are of 10 PA. Participation in the on-call rota will be renumerated as a category B with an on-call frequency of 1:2.

You will contribute to the supervision of the day-to-day management of the biochemistry laboratories and support the existing nutrition and lipid services. Duties will include consultant medical cover in hours and out-of-hours, clinical liaison, reporting duties, and provision of professional direction of the service.

In addition, you will be encouraged to pursue sub-speciality interests relevant to this role and in line with your previous experience.

As a senior member of staff, you will be responsible for the delivery of Postgraduate and Undergraduate teaching programmes, as well as teaching other healthcare professionals, and performing appraisals and assessments of junior medical colleagues.

You will comply with the Trust’s Clinical Governance policy, including clinical risk management, and lead on audit projects.

Research is highly encouraged within the Trust, and we have a very supportive R&D department.

We are committed to ensure a work-life balance to all our staff by offering full time and part time roles, flexible working hours on a shift pattern to fit around your family life.

Benefits to you
•    27 days annual leave for new starters, rising to 29 days after five years of service and 33 days after 10 years of service, plus 8 Bank Holidays (pro-rata for part time staff);
