We are seeking an ambitious and confident candidate to join our Paediatric Medical Staffing team as a Trust Registrar in Paediatrics on a fixed term 6 month assignment.
You will be part of a friendly and high-performing team aiming to provide high-quality general paediatric and neonatal care to our patients at Peterborough City Hospital.
You will enjoy working in Woman & Children’s Wing which displays a state-of-the-art Maternity Suite, a Neonatal Unit with facilities for intensive care/high dependency care for babies, and a Transitional Care Ward. Your clinical duties will include general paediatric inpatient care at Amazon Ward at Paediatric Assessment Unit as well as outpatient paediatric care at Rainforest Unit.
You must demonstrate essential skills in managing paediatric and neonatal patients and be confident in most neonatal skills which are essential for this post.
We are committed to provide training and development opportunities to our junior medical staff including study leave entitlements and mentoring programmes. We have created and delivered regular teaching sessions planned weekly in advance, discussing a variety of topics such as Safeguarding, Community, Neonatology and General Paediatrics.
Main duties of the job
The rota is a full shift pattern currently 1:12. The weekly average is 40 hours inclusive of annual leave cover. A week of Outpatient Clinics are factored into the rota. In addition, you will participate in the 2nd tier 6 cell on-call rota together with paediatric trainees.
Your clinical duties will include general paediatric inpatient care at Amazon Ward at Paediatric Assessment Unit as well as outpatient paediatric care at Rainforest Unit. You will also manage NICU and neonatal care for at-risk deliveries as well as management of children in the assessment area of the children’s ward together with the consultant and junior trainees.
Jointly, you will manage children in the A&E department together with the A&E staff and the GPs providing out-of-hours care. In addition, you will be part of rapid referral clinic and take part in sub-specialty clinics.
You will be encouraged to participate in the teaching and examination/assessment of medical students from Cambridge University and paediatric trainees doing all aspects of the MRCPCH examination.
You will be expected to attend Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with the specifications laid down by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The position is a six-month general paediatric post and includes out of hours duties on Inpatient care at Amazon Ward at Paediatric Assessment Unit & NICU. The successful candidate should have the essential skills in managing sick paediatric and neonatal patients and confident in most neonatal skills which are essential for this post. The post holder will have an opportunity to partake in General Paediatric clinics from a designated clinic list but always supported by a consultant.

Essential criteria
- MBBS (or equivalent)
- NALS
- APLS or equivalent course
- Full/Limited GMC Registration
Desirable criteria
- MRCPCH/ MRCOCH, MRCGP or equivalent
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 3 years full-time service at SHO or higher grade since
- At least 3 years experience in Child Health, which may include above
- Neonatal experience in the UK - minimum of 6 months
- General Paediatric experience in the UK - minimum of 6 months
Desirable criteria
- Special interest in Ambulatory Paediatrics
- Sub-specialty experience
