Job overview

We are looking for a trainee advanced clinical practitioners to join the Gastroenterology and Hepatology service based primarily at Peterborough City Hospital, part of North West Anglia Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to join us and to deliver high quality care across an ever developing specialist service.

We will support you to excel in your autonomous practice within our dynamic fast paced teaching environment. With the support of our consultant team, Registrars and Specialist Nurses you will be expected to develop a full portfolio in line with the HEE credentials, whilst attaining a full  MSc in advanced clinical practice.

Working as part of the clinical team you will be trained to see the full range of Gastroenterology and Hepatology conditions within a consultant lead service. We are confident that we can help you to achieve your potential as a clinician within our service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be practising under supervision as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (TACP) within the Gastroenterology and Hepatology service in order to provide patient-centred quality care. The role will encompass the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice. The post holder will (under supervision of a senior clinician), assist in the safe assessment, treatment, referral and discharge of patients within the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division.

As a Trainee post, the following will be the standards that the successful candidate will be aiming for as a result of their training period.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Registered Nurse or HCPC registered
  • • Evidence of advanced clinical skills commensurate with a Band 6 role
  • • Willingness to undertake a master’s in advanced Practice including a non-medical prescribing course (level 7) within 1 year
  • • Mentorship or teaching qualification
Desirable criteria
  • • Masters level or working towards MSc
  • • Autonomous practice qualification within the field of Gastroenterology or Hepatology
  • • Management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Extensive Gastroenterology /Hepatology care nursing experience to demonstrate skills
  • • Competence in the interpretation of diagnostics and clinical decision making.
  • • Understanding of Health Care Governance and its application
  • • Ability to manage risk
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of teaching at informal or formal level
  • • Previous autonomous practice in a role
  • • Experience in leading, managing and developing a team
