Job overview
We have the opportunity for successful applicant(s) to join our amazing team of Enhanced and Advanced level Practitioners within the Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) Directorate at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWAFT).
We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated NMC/HCPC Registered Nurse’s, Paramedics or Physiotherapists with the right attributes and passion for Emergency Medicine (EM) to work alongside our multidisciplinary team within the Emergency Department (ED) and integrated Urgent Treatment Care (iUTC) at Peterborough City Hospital (PCH).
Modelled on the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) ACP curriculums and Health Education England (HEE) ACP framework (links below). We are able to support successful candidate(s) with academic study, clinical assessment, development of differential diagnosis, ordering and interpretation of appropriate investigations, developing technical skills and undertaking practical procedures.
This role also attracts 20% Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) time for Practitioners to undertake study, personal and service development. Therefore, we look for the candidate(s) with the right attributes and characteristics for our team.
We will assess people not only on their academic and technical achievements but on their non-technical and communication skills.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be developing their clinical practise under the supervision of an experienced multidisciplinary team as a trainee Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tEM-ACP) within the Consultant led ED.
The post holder will develop through academic study and clinical practice under direct and indirect supervision of senior clinicians. Developing their knowledge and skills in the safe assessment, treatment, referral and discharge of patients within an agreed scope of practice to provide patient-centred quality care within their designated area of work.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Nurse or HCPC Registered Paramedic or Physiotherapist.
- Ability and eligibility to study at level 7 (Masters)
- Safeguarding Adults (level 3).
- Safeguarding Children (level 3).
Desirable criteria
- Master’s Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice (or in certain circumstances has completed Health Education England (HEE) ACP ePortfolio).
- Independent Prescriber (V300).
- Advanced Life Support provider (ALS) – or equivalent certificate.
- Advanced Paediatric Life Support provider (APLS) – or equivalent
- Advanced Trauma Life Support provider (ATLS) – or equivalent
- Completed or working toward accreditation/credentialing with The Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM)
- Generic Instructor Course (GIC) for the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) or Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG)
- Leadership qualification
- Teaching / Assessment and mentoring qualification
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Immediate Life Support provider (ILS)
- Paediatric Immediate Life Support provider (PILS)
- IR(ME)R certificate
Experience
Essential criteria
- Has ≥5 years whole time equivalent (WTE) speciality experience working within Emergency, Urgent, Acute or Critical Care setting
- Has ≥1 years whole time equivalent (WTE) speciality experience working at a Band 6 level within Emergency, Urgent, Acute or Critical Care setting
Desirable criteria
- Competent in the clinical assessment and management of all patient groups
- Able to role model and lead whilst working independently and within a team
- Have had line management experience
- Experience of teaching at informal and formal level
- Change management experience
- Participated in audit and developed service improvement strategies
- Has had appraisal and recruitment training
Key Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate a clear vision and the role of the ACP service
- Demonstrates skilled written and verbal communication, presentation and decision -making skills
- Organised, able to prioritise, make decisions and meet targets/deadlines
- Willingness to embrace change to meet the short-term and longterm needs of the Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) directora

- Good negotiation and advocacy skills
- Can undertake venepuncture, cannulation
- Has good understanding on pain management and methods to reduce pain (e.g., analgesia, slings, cold compress, immobilisation etc).
Desirable criteria
- Ability to initiate, sustain and evaluate change
- Able to undertake basic wound management (e.g., clean, medical photography, steri -strips, medical glue, appropriate dressing etc.)
- Able to undertake advanced wound management techniques (e.g., suturing, staples etc.)
- Can undertake intraosseous (IO) access
- Can identify critical Limb injuries and know how to manage including dislocations and those needing manipulation
- Can insert Longlines/Midlines with ultrasound guidance
Other
Essential criteria
- Experience with using Word and Excel
- Demonstrates understanding of relevant national strategy/policy and how to relate this to the service
Desirable criteria
- Portfolio of evidence with evidence of Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS)
- Experience working with Symphony IT system and or system one
