This is an excellent opportunity to join our specialist team of Physicians and become part of the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust working cross site at Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital. However, we will consider any requests for a specific site.

As our new Consultant, you will ensure the provision of a high-quality services to the obstetrics and gynaecology patients while having the opportunity to pursue your special interest in Benign Gynaecology and Colposcopy. You will provide clinical input and leadership within the speciality.

Main duties of the job

The sessional commitments are 10 PAs (8.5 DCC+ 1.5 SPA) including a 1 in 12 on call rota covering Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Peterborough City Hospital and a 1 in 8 rota at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The job plan will be reviewed on an annual basis.

Both hospitals have fully equipped obstetric, and midwifery led birthing units, fetal medicine scanning and high-risk obstetric services in addition to high quality modern inpatient and outpatient Gynaecology services. The Maternity IT system is K2 with all 3 modules- Antenatal, Intrapartum and Postnatal.

You will work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service of the highest standard and to develop and maintain good working practices. You will ensure effective clinical leadership for all staff in the service through positive collaboration with colleagues.

As a senior member of staff, you will provide teaching and guidance to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

You will comply with the Trust’s Clinical Governance policy, including clinical risk management, support and lead audit projects and liaise with the other consultant staff on the development and implementation of protocols and guidelines for patient care.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • ATSM Benign Gynaecology
  • ATSM Hysteroscopy and colposcopy
  • CCT and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within six months of the Appointments Advisory Committee
  • Full GMC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Labour Ward ATSM or equivalence or ‘grandfathering’

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience in MDT team working, practice and providing leadership in managing labour wards and acute emergencies
  • Recent active involvement in practical intrapartum obstetrics
  • Broad experience in Obstetrics
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in Gynae-oncology
  • Teaching at post- and undergraduate levels

Academic Achievements

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate successful participation in audit
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of Attendance and presentation [incl poster] at national or international Obstetric and gyne meetings
  • Evidence of completed and published research
