Job overview

You will be working as part of the Children’s Unit Nursing team, this role focuses on the provision of direct care to children and their families in an outpatient and clinic environment. The post holder will work with children and young people with varying health and social care needs.

The post holder will be an advocate for children and their families, promoting child focussed, family-centred care and facilitate effective liaison with the multi-disciplinary team and other professional colleagues and agencies involved within the child’s care.

The post holder will act as a role model in the delivery of patient care, support and teach staff contributing to the development of the service.

Main duties of the job

Primarily, the role of the children's nurse in outpatients is to be part of the nurse-led clinic team. This is an independently run nurse clinic as part of a wide MDT. Referrals are taken from both in-house speciality teams and teams from the wide range of tertiary centres that we share patient care with.

Education

Essential criteria
  • RSCN/ RN Child
  • Mentoring qualification (or willingness to work towards)
Desirable criteria
  • BSc Nursing (or willingness to work towards)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 2 years in acute Paediatric setting
  • Evidence of safeguarding experience
  • Mentoring of students
  • Sound evidence of clinical ability
  • Awareness of professional responsibilities
  • Articulates understanding of prioritising clinical issues
  • Experience of working with children with life limiting conditions / complex health care needs
  • Demonstrates awareness of current legislation relating to children in primary and secondary care
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of children’s nursing in outpatient setting
  • Articulates understanding of primary care
