An exciting opportunity has become available for Band 2 Healthcare Assistant to join our paediatric team within the Children's Unit. Whilst this position is for a Band 2, if the necessary criteria is met then successful candidates will be offered a Band 3 role in line with the recent re-banding of HCA's. For any successful candidates who do not meet the Band 3 criteria on appointment, we will expedite relevant training for you. Experience of working with children and families is required and the ideal candidate will be flexible, have excellent communication skills and be able to work within a busy environment.
Main duties of the job
As a Healthcare Support Worker you will support the nursing team to deliver a high standard of care whilst putting the child and family at the centre of everything you do. You will be a part of an enthusiastic, friendly and hardworking team. A flexible approach, good sense of humour and the ability to prioritise workloads is a must.
Full training will be given to the successful candidate. Full and part time positions are available. All posts will be on internal rotation to days and nights.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Assists in providing an environment for children and their families, which is welcoming, friendly and non-threatening.
- Assists with patient care according to the care plan and under supervision of trained staff
- Carries out delegated nursing tasks subject to monitoring and evaluation by senior staff.
- Contribute to the wellbeing of patients ensuring their comfort and dignity is maintained.
- To deliver food and drinks to babies and children in line with their care plan including the making up of infant formula feeds.
- Escorting patients to other departments in the hospital and regional centres for investigations as required.
- Assists in ensuring that a high level of quality care is offered to patients attending the department.
- To work at all times as part of the health care team.
- To attend briefings, meetings and training sessions, as required
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE or equivalent in English Language and Maths or can demonstrate competency in the above
- NVQ Level 2 in Care (or other relevant subject)
- Desire and ability to undertake appropriate training
Desirable criteria
- Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of working with babies/children and young people
- Good understanding of the role of the Health Care Support Worker
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a healthcare environment
Key Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English
- Basic IT skills
- Good organisation skills
- Demonstrate a positive approach to team working
