The Speciality Doctor's duties vary from performing clinical responsibilities for paediatric inpatients, to providing SCBU and neonatal care for at-risk deliveries. Together with the consultant and junior trainees, you will manage the provision of care to the children in the assessment area and in the children’s ward.

Your duties will extend to the A&E department as well where you will support the staff and the GPs in delivering out-of-hours care. In addition, you will participate in the rapid referral clinic and take part in sub-specialty clinics.

You will participate in the teaching and examination/assessment of medical students from Cambridge University and paediatric trainees doing all aspects of the MRCPCH examination.

You will participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) following the specifications laid down by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

The job plan will include 1 PA for CPD and will be agreed in detail after appointment with the applicant’s particular interests and needs in mind but will include an equal share of the on call commitments with the other colleagues in the 2nd tier.

The applicant does not need to have completed their membership examinations and this post would be a very good way to facilitate this. Hinchingbrooke previously has been a centre for MRCPCH clinical examinations and some of the consultants have been on the facility of examiners. There is enough support provided in the department to undertake mock exams and practice clinical scenarios.

In-house training will be supported to enable post holder to undertake proposed duties.

An annual appraisal will take place including review of your Job Plan.

Participate in Clinical Audit, Under- and Post-graduate teaching - including teaching to the A&E staff on paediatric topics.

Participate in Continuing Professional Development in accordance with the specification laid down by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and Clinical Audit and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
