Job overview

Our Estates team is for a dedicated maintenance assistant to join them in effective delivering of maintenance services to the mechanical services and assets that underpin the delivery of healthcare services. We offer a full time permanent role based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital with cross site duties to retained estates at Peterborough and Stamford & Rutland Hospital.

You will join a supportive and friendly team of professionals to which you will bring a broad range of skill sets to undertake basic fault finding and conduct routine maintenance to range of mechanical systems. 

No formal qualifications are essential, however a thorough understanding of mechanical systems are required along with an attention to detail. You will take pride in the highest standards of work.

You must possess good literacy skills and the ability to work on your own and work as part of the maintenance team to achieve shared goals.

You will interact with a variety of people including staff, service users and visitors and therefore must have excellent customer service skills and be able to communicate effectively with a range of people in care environment.

Main duties of the job

You will carry out maintenance, inspection and non-routine repairs on a range of engineering plant and equipment. The plant and equipment includes, drains, low-pressure hot water systems, plumbing systems, pumps, ventilation plant and other mechanical systems.

You will assists maintenance craftsmen in technical aspects of their work including calorifier and boiler strip downs and cleaning and drain clearance.

You will carry out the work at the request of supervision or, in the absence of supervision, at the request of management and you will use your initiative to perform minor repairs or essential emergency work without being told provided it is safe to do so

You will comply with operational, technical and health & safety standards and procedures.

  • BTEC Introductory Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • NVQ level 1 with key skills in engineering or plumbing
