Job overview

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a qualified Pharmacy Technician to join a patient focused team that is continually developing its high quality dispensary based service. This essential post will provide the opportunity for a committed technician to put their pharmacy skills into practice working with both new and innovative technology and systems whilst being supported by a predominantly technician led dispensary. This role will deputise for the dispensary manager allowing the successful candidate the opportunity to gain experience in managing a dispensary service, therefore would be a great opportunity for someone looking to become a dispensary manager in the future.

We are looking for a highly motivated, forward thinking Pharmacy Technician with excellent organisational skills, good IT skills, a team player and able to work under pressure whilst ensuring accuracy in all aspects of dispensary based medicines management. It is essential that you are an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT).

The successful candidate will work in conjunction with the Dispensary Manager in developing and promoting an excellent dispensary service. We are currently in the early stages of building a brand-new hospital at the Hinchingbrooke site so the successful candidate will also be able to be involved in elements of designing a new pharmacy department alongside the dispensary manager. It really is an exciting time to be joining the NWAFT pharmacy team. 

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for providing an accurate and efficient service in the pharmacy dispensary supporting the dispensing of all inpatient and outpatient prescriptions.  You will be a highly motivated and responsible individual with a passion for customer service and team work.

You will assist the ward-based staff in the clinical supply of medications to the patients on the Patient’s Own Drugs Scheme. (POD’s).

You will participate in the final checking of medications in the dispensary.

You will support the effectiveness of the technical aspects of the medicines management service and the safe and accurate dispensing of prescriptions.

You will support the routine supply of clinical trial medication to patients and the development/delivery of standard operating procedures.

Edcuation and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Integrated standard of Pharmacy Technician practice / NVQ 3 Pharmacy Services or National BTEc Certificate in Pharmaceutical Services or equivalent
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Accredited Checking Technician (ACPT) - current certificate or completed under integrated Pharmacy Technician standards

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven track record in Pharmacy
  • Previous experience in community or hospital pharmacy
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy Computer Systems (training available)
  • Knowledge of requirements for maintaining confidentiality and accurate record keeping
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of managing and supervising staff
