Specialist Grade in Acute Medicine

Specialty Doctor

Job overview

Are you an ambitious specialist doctor in Acute or General Internal Medicine ready for the next step in your career?

Our Acute Medicine team at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to welcome you to join the team and help us build a strong comprehensive patient-centred acute medical service.

We will offer you a permanent role based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon.

With a passion for delivering high-quality care to our acute medical patients, you will thrive in finding creative ways to consolidate the current services and propose new initiatives to develop and implement new evidence-based service practice improvements. You will demonstrate strong decision-maker skills in the rapid assessment of patients including post-take ward rounds for patients, streaming to appropriate pathways and commencement of treatment.

We are committed to supporting your career in an environment where your skills and initiatives are valued. We will encourage and support you to develop a clinical leadership role and go through the CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for specialist registration) pathway.

We respect your well-being and we are open to flexibility in your working patterns. If you wish to work less than full time or to job share, we would be happy to discuss.

Main duties of the job

The job plan was created to include 10 PAs (8.5 DCC+ 1.5 SPA). If a less-than-full-time work pattern is agreed upon, these commitments will be reduced pro rata. You will be required to provide weekend cover from 08:00 to 14:00 on Saturday and Sunday, one weekend in seven.

By joining the existing team of Acute Physicians and specialist staff, you will have the opportunity to challenge all aspects of service and to identify and implement new protocols and guidelines to ensure a high standard of patient-centred care and patient experience in a safe and compassionate environment.

You will actively participate in Trust Clinical Governance activities, including audit, mortality review, and appraisal process ensuring that the data collection and processing is consistently accurate and timely, and complies with the Trust Data Quality Policy and Information Governance procedures.

As an educator, you will be teaching and training as well as supervising the junior doctors, nurses, and students to promote a positive and supportive atmosphere.

You will be responsible to engage in the regular appraisal process for revalidation purposes.

If you like to find out more about the role and organise an informal visit, we are welcoming you to contact David Ward, Acute Medicine Clinical Lead at [email protected].
